Challenge
Transforming a static office park into a green, livable city quarter
Brainpark’s outdated office infrastructure needed a radical re-imagination: from single-use workspaces into live-work-live districts. The challenge was to overlay housing, public spaces, mobility, and greenery — while preserving infrastructure flexibility and adapting to Rotterdam’s urban needs.

Approach
Designing flexibility, green living & mixed-use urban life
MEK01’s design uses a hybrid block typology: mixed-use buildings with varied heights and materials, integrating public plinths, mobility hubs and green courtyards. Collective rooftop gardens, landscaped courtyards and shared mobility reduce reliance on cars and foster community. The urban design aligns with future public transport and city-wide green infrastructure.
