Challenge

Transforming an Industrial Relic into a Cultural Catalyst

The Koelhuis site faced years of neglect, outdated zoning, and even a demolition permit. The challenge was to preserve its monumental character while redefining its role as a space for culture, technology, and education.

Approach

Heritage Preservation Meets Immersive Innovation

BakkersHommen® approached the project through adaptive reuse — combining engineering expertise with an entrepreneurial mindset. By working in sprints with the city, partners, and creatives, the team turned risk into a model for cultural infrastructure.
