Challenge
Turning Fragmented Industry into a Cohesive Urban Neighbourhood
The Ruimtekwartier site lacked identity — a patchwork of industrial plots and vacant land. The challenge was to establish a coherent spatial and social vision while integrating new functions that serve both residents and local businesses.

Approach
Designing an Inclusive, Self-Sustaining Urban Framework
Bakkers | Hommen worked closely with the municipality, residents, and social partners to co-create a district plan that prioritises liveability, accessibility, and flexibility. The approach blends long-term thinking with modular phasing to ensure organic, inclusive growth.
