Brainpark Phase 4 marks a new step in the transformation of Brainpark Rotterdam. Designed by Diederendirrix Architecture, the phase introduces two innovative buildings that strengthen connectivity and urban diversity between earlier phases and the A16 corridor.

Building Development

Urban dynamism shaped by connection and scale

Phase 4 is conceived as a connective urban zone where movement, mixed use, and architectural variation come together to form a lively city environment.

The sub-area consists of two buildings positioned between Phase 2 and the A16, acting as a spatial bridge within the Brainpark development and reinforcing continuity across the district.

challenge

Challenge

Linking large-scale infrastructure with human-scale urban life

Phase 4 needed to mediate between the scale of the A16 and the finer grain of the surrounding urban fabric. The challenge was to create buildings that contribute to Brainpark’s identity while ensuring accessibility, comfort, and a pleasant pedestrian experience.

approach

Approach

Using height, routing, and program to shape urban flow

The design introduces height variation and a clear transversal route to guide movement through the area. By combining mixed-use functions with careful massing, the plan creates an active urban environment that connects phases, supports daily use, and enhances the overall spatial structure of Brainpark.

impact

A connective phase with long-term urban value

Phase 4 strengthens Brainpark as a coherent, future-oriented district where infrastructure and urban life reinforce each other.

By improving pedestrian connections and introducing mixed-use buildings, Phase 4 enhances accessibility and supports daily interaction between different parts of Brainpark, contributing to a more inclusive and connected district.
